And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience Col 3:12
Happy Rest Day sweet ladies! As I was doing my Bible study the other day I came across this scripture and I though to myself, we get up and “put on” everyday. We know how to put on cute clothes, pretty jewelry and trendy shoes. All those things that we can buy with our hard earned money. We even know how to “put on” a smile.
But how do we “put on” a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience? These are things that our money cannot buy. These are conditions of our heart.
We wouldn’t come in from working in our gardens all dirty and sweaty and put on our brand new clothes! No, we take off our dirt covered work gear and scrub all clean with nice smelling shampoo and body wash first. The same way we need to put off anger, wrath, malice, slander and abusive speech and unforgiveness. We do this by honestly talking to the Lord and telling him about any angry attitudes we’ve had, any lies we’ve told or mean things we’ve said and though others might not deserve it we forgive them. We ask for forgiveness and He forgives us!!!
I don’t know about you but I love the fresh clean feeling of just getting out of the shower. But that feeling doesn’t even compare to the great feeling of being clean and right with the Lord on the inside! After spending that honest and open time with the Lord a joyful gratitude fills our hearts and we want to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient with others.
So today before we “put on” the latest cute fashions let’s take time to get cleaned up on the inside and then our inner beauty really will shine through!
