Happy Saturday friends! Soooo ready for the weekend! Today I’m actually going to head to our local pumpkin patch and get a sugar pumpkin to make a pie. I was told by my coworker, they’re smaller than carving pumpkins and firmer, making them better for pies according to her mom who made them all the time when she was growing up. I’ve talked about it for years now but this is the year I’m really going to do it. You can tune in to my story on Instagram and see how it’s goes.
It’s supposed to be in the 60’s and sunny so I’ve decided on this cozy warm cardigan from JC Penny’s. I’ve done a little pattern mixing with this short sleeved split neck top underneath.
I love the cable knit of this cardigan on the front, sleeves and it’s even carried onto the back. It’s a great bargain at the sale price with code GOSTYLE and comes in several different colors and sizes XS to XXL.
This split crew neck top has a really nice silky feel to it. I like the contrasting patterns and textures together. It’s 40% off with the same code GOSTYLE and comes in several different patterns too and sizes XS to XXL.
I’ve chosen comfy black jeans (similar here) and a simple pair of black bow ballet flats to complete my look. Both seemed good choices to trudge thru a pumpkin patch. Though I’ve never actually trudged through a pumpkin patch in all my 62 years so I guess I’ll find out, ha!
The cardigan also has pockets that are pretty deep, perfect for holding my cell phone while I’m picking out a pumpkin. I love this little longer length too for style and warmth to wrap up in if there’s a breeze which is pretty regular up here in our northern California mountain area this time of year.
Ok, I’m off to Papa’s Pumpkin Patch! I’m totally uncertain how this is going to go but that’s how adventures are right? No expectations of perfection, just exploring something new and out of your normal routine to see what’s out in our great big world around us. It’s important to try new things to keep us growing and learning!
How about you? What adventures have you been on lately? I’d love to hear if you’d care to share in the comments below. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! If you like what you’re seeing we’d really appreciate if you would share us with a friend or two.
Fall is the beginning of a lot of fun activities and performances. This truly is my favorite time of the year starting now till New Year’s. You can honestly feel the excitement in the air. Although my kids are now grown, I coordinate times and we all meet to pick out pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. One of our favorite items besides pumpkins is the pumpkin syrup. Then they always have to twist my arm ha ha and I make them french toast for dinner that day:)
October and November bring all the fall concerts. My son has been playing guitar since he was 10 so I’ve always enjoyed dressing up to watch his performances. He is now performing with many talented individuals at his college and the concerts are thoroughly enjoyable. I like to feel cute and modest. My exact shirt has sold out but I love this one from JC Penney. Both the striped and sundrop are cute patterns. It’s available in tall so if you like your shirts a little longer to cover the tummy area it would be perfect. I did a front tuck with mine. Use code GOSTYLE for a 20% savings. Or 25% off $100 and over order. This one from Express is a great option too. I love the ruffle around the collar and the buttons. It comes in sizes xxs-xl and is 30% off.
I would also wear this to a meeting with one of my clients during a makeup consultation. I’ve always loved Mary Kay’s motto. Not just the fact that she always said to put faith first, family second and then to work very hard third but the example she left us by her fashion choices. She always said to look professional, feminine and modest. I feel this outfit follows that to a tee.
I added black control top pantyhose and black booties for a slimming appearance. Of course, this girl needs a little sparkle on her booties but solid black would work just as well. The ones I’m wearing are no longer available but these are cute and I also like these. Vera Wang boots are always comfortable and offer the extra little pizazz I love. These Dr. Scholl’s are super cute and with a padded footbed and both medium and wide widths available they look to be a perfect option also. The exact brand I’m wearing is Madden at Kohl’s. The ones available come with this cute wooden heel making them great if you’re looking for something you can dress up or dress down for a more casual look.
Red is one of my favorite colors so I added this lightweight red cardigan for a pop of color. Mine is sold out but I love this one from Kohl’s. The detail at the top is pretty and the vertical detail on the back would be slimming. I also like that it’s a bit brighter red. It’s an otherwise neutral outfit and although I love black and white it’s not the best near my face. I am a cool winter in my natural coloring so a bit of color brings out the pink in my complexion which is more flattering. Makeup tip-pinch your cheeks and see what your natural color is. That is the color blush you should be using:) Rosy Nude is my color.
Take your pointer and middle finger and place them right beside your nose looking in a mirror. That is where your blush should start along your natural cheek bones. Your natural cheek color will always make you appear more youthful. If you see young children running around playing without a care in the world they usually have a flushed glow to their cheeks. Freckles are also in right now. So while we love a perfect matte complexion, don’t cover up those youthful freckles too much.
My black leather wrap bracelet with small crystal details along with my simple silver hoops with a sparkly sheen were the perfect accents. I love Alison + Aubrey for jewelry but I’m going shopping today with my mom and am going to try to find some pretty options to share with you all next week.
You could also choose red heels to bookend your red cardigan and still achieve that slimming look. The straps across your foot should be small and if you can cross them in a way that makes an X it will slim your leg. A pointed toe will also help with this.
This pair has a block heel that is fairly low and the toe isn’t too narrow making them comfortable. I love these and these. I love the scallop edging. Use code FRIENDS at checkout for savings.
What kind of outfits do you all like to wear to your children or grandchildren’s recitals and school festivities? Mom, my daughter and I are headed to the pumpkin patch this Saturday. We are picking out pumpkins for them to make homemade pumpkin pie, yummy! I am their taste tester as this girl usually burns everything ha ha. It’s a good thing I married a cook:)
If anyone’s interested in following along we will put our pumpkin patch experience on our Insta stories. It’s always a fun adventure with us girls. A lot of laughter in our house. Good morning ladies! We’ve made it over the hump and are on the downhill side of another week. We’re having a reprieve from the cold weather here and it’s supposed to be in the mid 70’s again by the weekend! Though I love the change over to winter clothes with their cozy warm textures and styles I still find the cold challenging.
So while we still have some sun shine I’m going to wear this Maison Jules printed flutter-sleeve dress. I added a white NYDJ jean jacket because I liked the contrast of the white with the red print.
Macy’s has this dress marked down 60% right now and it comes in several different prints and sizes XXS to XXL. The skirt portion is lined so no slip is required but you can still wear one if that’s your preference.
I love the v-neck that’s not too revealing and it ties at the waist to give a most flattering shape. And the flutter sleeves are so feminine.
It also has hidden pockets on the sides. I’m 5’8″ and the length hits me just above my knees. I did tie it rather loosely though, if you tie it up tighter it does pull of the length so you can decide what suits you.
For the early morning chill I added this white jean jacket (no longer available but similar here). Though white is still acceptable after Labor Day these days, you could always add a blue jean jacket instead (option here and here, both of which are marked down considerably).
I chose to wear my nude block heel mesh booties today but I’ll switch them up for a nude closed toe bootie as the weather cools a bit more.
I really like the versatility of this dress. It’s perfect for work, church or even a granddaughter’s high school graduation in the summer months and by simply switching out shoes and adding a jean jacket I can wear it into the cooler fall months too.

Hi ladies! Here we are on the first day of October already! Our local pumpkin patch is opening today. I love when I drive by there in the morning and see the big field of orange. I know my grandchildren are excited to be going to the pumpkin patches by them and I’m excited to see all the pictures my adult children send or post. Every year I plan on going here and getting one to make fresh pumpkin pie, maybe this will be the year it actually happens, ha!
Today I’m styling a Loren Conrad blazer from Kohls with a Liz Claiborne floral top from JC Penny’s.
This exact blazer is no longer available but this one is very similar and it’s on sale for 20% off with code ORCHARD20. It comes in three other colors and sizes XS to XXL.
This Liz Claiborne v-neck top is a nice quality, comes in sizes XS to XXL and is on sale for 30% off with code Fall19 at checkout. It’s a little sheer so I wore my fitted tank under it. With this cooler weather I wear a tank under pretty much all my tops sheer or not just for the warmth.
I chose my INC skinny leg pants from Macy’s which are already sold out but these pull on zip pocket pair are similar in looks and the slip on band is really comfortable. The similar ones come in three other colors and sizes 0 to 18.
I’m getting a lot of wear out of these Life Stride heels from Kohls. I love the style and contrasting trim. It’s hard to believe they can be so stylish while still being so comfortable.
I really like the contrast of a menswear inspired blazer with an airy floral top and dainty shoes. I want to be taken seriously but still keep a feminine aura.
I guess if I want to be taken seriously I best get a move on and get out the door to be on time! Hope you have a wonderful first day of October and maybe pick up a pumpkin or two, be it at a pumpkin patch or even your local supermarket. Thanks for stopping by Sizable Fashion. Good morning, what a weekend!! I had a fun family adventure picking up our new puppy, a chocolate lab whom we’ve named Rocky. And, the weather has turned to freezing temps almost overnight it seems. I am definitely not used to this type of weather this early in September. I told my husband if I must get a whole new wardrobe to help me adjust then I must ha ha!! I do what I’ve got to do:) Is anyone else experiencing cooler than expected temps this time of year??
I pulled out my raincoat yesterday and my cute rain boots as we were braving the weather to go grocery shopping. To my dismay, the internet was not cooperating and my beloved Wal-mart e cart would not load, so trekking through the rain we went. I love having a cute raincoat with a hood. This exact one is sold out but I love these from J Crew. There is a lot of pretty colors, and a cinched waist to keep us from looking frumpy, yes please:) It’s available in sizes xxs through 3x. Made of a fabric that’s machine washable is a plus and J Crew has 30% off right now using code MONDAY.
Having a raincoat that’s long enough to cover your backside so you can wear it with leggings, skinny jeans and your bulkier sweaters is a great option. I also love these raincoats from Macy’s. The first one is from London Fog and the second is Ralph Lauren. The Jackie O vibe they give off is what drew me to them. The cheetah hood on this Via Spiga is a great way to add animal print this season without going overboard. If you’re looking to incorporate this trend then I think this is a great option. Macy’s is giving 15% off right now with code DEALS.
One more raincoat option I wanted to mention is from Amazon. It is the brand Fisoul. It comes in a lot of great color options and isn’t that striped lining so cute. The detachable hood is convenient and also has the cute striping on it. It’s also a very affordable option. All of these raincoats come with many great reviews and were listed in the Today Show’s top ten coats.
Of course, with raincoats comes rain boots and umbrellas so you can have fun playing with your new puppy while starting to potty train. These matte Chelsea rain boots from J Crew are cute and get good reviews for comfort. They also come in a pretty green and are included in the 30% off sale with code MONDAY. I also like these Sam Edelman Tinsley rain boots. They are super cute and have a padded foot bed. In the $50 price range with many color options and free shipping they are a perfect option.
If you’re looking for a taller option like I’m styling here, I really like these UGG Shaye rain boots. They come in four different color options and I love them all.
Last but definitely not least, umbrellas are a must. My daughter and I picked this up at Wal-mart and I’m so glad she insisted we get it. It was during the end of summer and we had some thunderstorms so she was wanting one, but I was thinking on it and so happy with my decision to purchase it. Boy, have I definitely used it a lot now only a few months later.
Shopping online last night I found this totes umbrella with the colored dots that I thought was so cute and perfect to match many outfit choices. It also comes in clear. I love bubble umbrellas to keep my hair looking perfect and they help block the wind in my opinion. If you’re looking for just one of the cutest umbrellas ever then Kate Spade is always a fun option. I also love this one from her.
I hope I’ve given you some inspiration to help you enjoy this rainy weather that is sure to come if it hasn’t hit where you live yet or if you’re like me and it’s already here then you can be confident you look cute while trying to avoid all the puddles. I used to love jumping in puddles as a kid. Oh the memories:)

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105 KJV
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
Recently I moved to the beautiful northern California mountains. While I’m loving the views and the cute deer with their babies that love to wander in and out of my yard, the reception in my neck of the woods is almost non-existent. I have been listening to Air1 since my kids were very little. I was very sad to learn that the station doesn’t come in very well at all with a lot more static than music. To the point that it’s not worth trying to even turn on.
Trying to complete my last two classes online was challenging and took me asking for grace from my professors to let me zip files and turn them in through an unconventional manner. In the scope of life these were only minor little bumps in my road. Because of these challenges, it led me to discover the Focus on the Family station and I have grown to love their daily podcast as much as my beloved Air1. The internet issues also allowed us to meet our local librarian where my daughter is going to start volunteering and be writing her children’s book. So a lot of good is coming out of these trying minor challenges that we may never have discovered had things worked perfectly from the start.
I know that some of you may be facing major challenges today that look to be endless and unbearable, so I just want to encourage you today to stay strong. Whatever God may be taking you through will end and you will be stronger than ever before. Studying God’s word so that I have scriptures on the tip of my tongue to quote when the enemy starts lying to me is essential. I love devotion books like Kay Harms, “A Taste of Satisfaction,” or free bible studies online through http://www.womenlivingwell.org. They help me to sort out what I’m reading in scripture and feel like they give me a place to start with my bible reading.
Having a strong support system through church bible study groups and my mom & sisters whom I can call or text 24/7 just to receive advice and encouragement is also invaluable. Find someone you can confide in that you trust completely and can look to for advice you know will line up with God’s word. Remember when your road gets long and bumpy to praise God along the way for what’s in store. Even when you can’t see the end don’t give up. Stay courageous just like Joshua in Jericho. Keep walking around those walls singing the loudest praises and before you know it those walls will fall and whatever you may be facing will be conquered with the Lord’s help:)
